Bem Vindo a Lisbon.

‘We can’t define Fado. Fado is a mystery.’ Amália Rodrigueso

Lisbon | 17th July 2017 (Duration 4 Weeks)

The startup scene in Lisbon has grown exponentially in the last few years. Recently noted as the number 5 startup ecosystem in Europe by the World Economic Forum it has very much been driven by affordable living costs, great work life balance and a spirit of exploration inherent in the Portuguese DNA.

Lisbon also provides a wealth of bright minds with numerous local universities that supply a fresh flow of highly qualified labour in the city with low overheads (comparatively low minimum salary). A key advantage for Portugal in welcoming international visitors is the high level of english literacy and education throughout the country.

The increased global interest in Lisbon is also due in part to it being the home of Web Summit from 2016 which sees over 60K people from around the world descend upon the city in November each year.

Perfect Surf

Along the Lisbon coastline there are countless beaches and surf communities including the famous Guincho beach.

Art and Architecture

The spirit of discoveries is seen throughout Lisbon. The influence from a golden age of exploration is seen in every part of the city.

Food is a huge part of life in Portugal. Amazing dishes can be found in every corner of the city from Michelin fine dining to back street Tascas.

Meet the locals

In Lisbon we wanted to find locals that represented the true startup scene with connections across multiple cowork spaces and industries. Our on ground local partners provide the best way to fully immerse in the startup scene with knowledge on local events, individuals and connections to ensure you make the most of your experienceship.

Cecilie has begun here second startup journey with Canopy Lisbon, following her Exit from an IoT startup in the Netherlands. During that journey she raised 1M€, progressed through startup bootcamp and built a solution with 3D printing.
